Originally a Texas native, Jonathan Humphries studied with Minh Chow and Dr. Peter Kempter, both whom helped hone his skill to win a chair in the UCSC Resident String Quartet.  At University of California - Santa Cruz, he was principal cellist and studied with Karen Andre, where he majored in cello performance.  He is currently a section cellist with the Silicon Valley Symphony and California Pops Orchestra, and works full time as a music teacher.

Currently, Jonathan has a thriving cello studio of all ages, which includes students from Central Middle School in San Carlos, Jane Lanthrop Stanford Middle School in Palo Alto, Mt. Eden High School in Hayward, St. Patrick's School in San Jose, and Castillero Middle School in Almaden Valley.  His adult students live in all parts of the Bay Area.  Some work for Google, eBay, Houzz, Ericsson, Stanford Hospital, while others are self employed or retired.

When he's not playing or teaching cello, Jonathan writes non-ficiton.
